Publisher's logos on old postcards
Many old postcards give no details of the publisher apart from a logo or trademark sign. Some of these are just symbols, some a jumble of initials and some a word which bears no relation to the actual name of the publisher. There are sites which provide information about publishers arranged by the publisher's name, and other sites which collect logos, often limited to particular countries (see
general references). Many logos and trade names do not seem to appear on any of these sites.
This is another such site, here organised by both logos and publishers and giving examples of the cards. It covers a
RESTRICTED RANGE OF PUBLISHERS.
The CardCow site lists over 25,000 postcard publishers but we cover here Continental European postcards dating before 1939. We also focus on publishers which produced "topic" cards rather than excusively topographic cards (views). As of June 2021, Delcampe is showing eight million topic cards out of 57 million cards in total.
If a card has a "logo" such as a monogram, emblem or a set of initials I
like to include it even if all the cards I have seen also give the publishers details; quite often there turns out to be other cards that don't. Quite a lot of entries are so far unidentified.
Where possible, further information about the publisher is included, often through links to other sites. Publishers merged over the years and some of the marks here may have had earlier or later owners that are not in the notes.
